Fire Damage

Fire Damage Restoration in San Diego

A fire is stressful enough on its own — the cleanup afterward often involves more than the burned materials themselves. Agee Restoration Services helps San Diego property owners assess and address the full scope of fire-related damage.

Fire damage isn't limited to what actually burned. Smoke travels through a property and leaves residue on surfaces far from the fire itself, soot can settle into porous materials, lingering odor can persist long after visible damage is cleaned, and water used to extinguish the fire can create a secondary water damage situation. Restoring a property after a fire generally means addressing all of these, not just the burned area.

As a licensed California contractor (CSLB #1135025) with IICRC-certified technicians, Agee Restoration Services can assess fire-related damage and help coordinate the mitigation and restoration work involved.

Beyond the Burn

What Fire Damage Can Involve

Smoke & Soot Residue

Smoke and soot can settle on walls, ceilings, and contents well beyond the immediate fire area.

Water From Firefighting

Water used to extinguish a fire can soak into flooring, drywall, and framing, creating a water damage situation on top of the fire damage.

Odor

Smoke odor can linger in materials like drywall, insulation, and fabrics if not properly addressed.

Structural Materials

Framing, subfloor, and other structural materials may be affected by heat, smoke, or the water used to fight the fire.

Finishes & Surfaces

Paint, drywall texture, and other finishes are often affected even outside the immediate burn area.

Contents

Furniture, belongings, and other contents can be affected by smoke and soot even in rooms the fire didn't reach.

Our Approach

How We Approach Fire Damage Restoration

  1. Emergency Contact & Assessment

We start with an inspection of the affected property to understand the extent of fire, smoke, soot, and water damage.

  2. Water Mitigation, If Applicable

If firefighting efforts left standing water, we extract it and begin drying — the same process used for any water damage loss.

  3. Soot & Smoke Cleaning

Affected surfaces are cleaned using methods appropriate to the material and the type of residue present.

  4. Odor Treatment

We address lingering odor as part of the cleaning process, using appropriate techniques for the affected materials.

  5. Controlled Demolition When Necessary

Materials that can't be effectively cleaned or restored — heavily charred, saturated, or contaminated materials — may need to be removed.

  6. Restoration & Reconstruction

As a licensed contractor, we can rebuild what was removed — drywall, paint, flooring, and other finish work.

The scope of a fire damage project depends heavily on the size and intensity of the fire, what materials were affected, and whether firefighting water was involved. We'll walk you through a plan specific to your property after inspection.

Questions

Fire Damage Restoration FAQ

Do you handle both the fire damage and any water damage from firefighting?

Yes. We assess the full scope, including any water damage left behind by firefighting efforts, and can handle mitigation for both as part of the same project.

Can smoke odor really be fully removed?

Odor treatment outcomes depend on how extensively materials absorbed smoke and how porous those materials are. We can't promise complete odor elimination in every circumstance, especially with heavily affected porous materials, but we use appropriate cleaning and treatment methods and will be upfront if a material is unlikely to fully recover.

Is it safe to stay in my home after a fire?

That depends on the extent of the damage and any safety hazards involved — structural, electrical, or air quality related. We can help assess the property, but for anything involving your safety immediately after a fire, follow guidance from the fire department and your local authorities first.

Do you work with insurance after a fire?

We can document the damage we find and the work performed, which is typically useful for an insurance claim. We're not a party to your policy, so coverage decisions are between you and your insurer.
